Digital transformation has become one of those phrases that means everything and nothing. For enterprise companies, it is a multi year, multi million dollar initiative. For businesses doing $1M to $50M, it should be simpler: figure out what is broken, fix it with the right technology, and measure whether it worked.

The four stage approach

We break every transformation into four stages:

  • Diagnose: map your current processes, identify the biggest bottlenecks, and quantify the cost of each one
  • Design: architect a solution that addresses the top 2 to 3 bottlenecks, define what success looks like with specific metrics
  • Deploy: build and launch in phases, starting with the highest impact, lowest risk change
  • Optimize: measure results against the metrics you defined, iterate based on real data, expand to the next bottleneck

Where to start

Do not try to transform everything at once. Pick the one process that costs you the most time or money and fix that first. For most businesses, this is either lead management, client onboarding, or internal reporting. Get one win, prove the ROI, and use that momentum to fund the next phase.

The best digital transformation projects start small, show results fast, and expand based on data. The worst ones try to change everything at once and collapse under their own weight.

What this costs (realistically)

A Strategy Sprint to diagnose and plan runs $1,500 to $3,000. Implementation of the first solution is typically $3,000 to $12,000. Ongoing optimization is $1,000 to $3,000 per month. That is a fraction of what enterprise consultants charge, and you see results in weeks, not quarters.
